TITLE: PHYSICAL/OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
DAYS: 185
SALARY: Commensurate with the school district's Classified Salary Schedule.
PRIMARY SUPERVISOR: DISTRICT DIRECTORS/SUPERINTENDENT
APPOINTMENT: Therapists shall be appointed annually, upon the recommendation of the District Director to the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Shall communicate effectively both orally and in writing with parents, students and faculty.
2. Shall have demonstrated people skills to indicate ability to function in a team oriented environment.
3. Shall be a Licensed Therapist with proper certification with the State of Kentucky.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Shall have the ability to sit, light lifting, stoop, any and all body movements as related to the job description.
JOB GOAL:
To perform advanced and complex duties in the area of Occupational or Physcial Therapy as identified in students IEP, maintain accurate medical records and reports; and provide education and training to students and staff in the district.
GENERAL DUTIES and PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Shall determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
2. Shall present a positive image of the school to parents, and convey to them the school's genuine concern with the education, growth and development of each student.
3. Shall seek to establish friendly and cooperative partnerships between home and school.
4. Shall work to develop a positive public relationship between the school district and the community.
5. Shall carry out assignments in a timely manner without undue checking.
6. Shall react positively to directives.
7. Shall have a willingness to cooperate with the superintendent, district administrators, principals and staff.
8. Shall maintain the confidentiality, both verbally & in written form, of each student's educational records.
9. Shall strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
10. Shall take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
11. Shall adhere to School Board of Education Policies and Procedures.
SPECIFIC DUTIES and PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Shall conduct individual assessments for referred students and provides a written evaluation according to established guidelines for Special Education and Preschool. 2. Shall conduct re-evaluations of current Special Education students at least once every three and provides a written evaluation according to established guidelines for Special Education.
3. Shall provide assessments that are mandated by student's Individual Education Plans (IEP) developed by School Based Admissions and Release Committee and provides written evaluation results.
4. Shall assist the Director of Federal Programs in the organization of direction and processing of school based referrals and placement procedures.
5. Shall attend Admissions and Release Committee meetings as appropriate.
6. Shall assume responsibility in the establishment and maintenance of confidential records of currently or formerly enrolled Special Education students and Preschool students as required by State and Federal Laws and Regulations.
7. Shall provide diagnostic services and therapy to students to meet individual needs, IEP goals and objectives regarding impairments.
8. Shall write comprehensive diagnostic reports and keeps ongoing records for individual students receiving therapy.
9. Shall assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, & referring students with suspected impairments.
10. Shall assist the Admissions and Release Committee (ARC) in interpreting educational assessment results, developing Individual Educational Plans (IEP) and determining the appropriate placements.
11. Shall coordinate and/or participate in parental involvement, staff development, and community agency activities.
12. Shall provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families as appropriate.
13. Shall maintain license by earning continuing education units as required by State Law.
14. Shall keep abreast of up-to-date research based strategies and attends professional meetings/ conferences relating to physical or occupational therapy.
15. Shall fulfill responsibilities to the department regarding documentation required for school based health services, i.e., Medicaid billing; to include but not to be limited the timely preparation and submission of service logs.
16. Shall perform any other duties related to your position as assigned by the supervisor.
